The antioxidant diphenylamine, DPA, is a traditional chemical used in USA for the post-harvest to prevent storage scald of apples and pears. But since 2012, European Commission prohibited the use of DPA, and constrained the MRL within very low level.

Under this situation, many associations and distributors intend to find other chemicals to replace DPA and comply with the regulations of EU.

1-MCP, the only registered post-harvest chemical, is a better way to keep apples and pears fresh instead of DPA, and fully complies with the EU restrictions on MRL.

It is reported that 1-MCP provides effective scald control in apples and pears. So with the use of 1-MCP, DPA could be completely replaced.
